“I am here with my Ukrainian Canadian colleagues in front of the gates of the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City to unveil this new photograph of Parliament in Ottawa illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
With this symbolic act, we wish to continue to publicly demonstrate Canada’s strong support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Ukraine is a country with which Canada has strong personal ties. After Ukraine and Russia, we are home to the third largest Ukrainian population in the world–more than 1.4 million people.
Canada was also the first Western country to recognize Ukraine’s independence in 1991, and we have enjoyed a strong bilateral relationship ever since.
I was very pleased to welcome this morning the Ambassador of Ukraine to Mexico, Oksana Dramaretska, for the official opening of this piece, in which we reiterated the solidarity of the Embassy and the Government of Canada with the Ukrainian people in the face of the unjustified invasion of their country.”
